EMS EVENT MEDICAL® — EVENT MEDICAL SPECIALISTS

Controlled Substances Competency

Schedule 8 — Morphine · Fentanyl · Ketamine

Before You Begin

This assessment evaluates competency in the safe administration of Schedule 8 controlled substances (Morphine, Fentanyl, Ketamine) in the event medical setting, as an additional scope of practice under EMS Event Medical clinical governance and the EMS TGA Medications Licence.

Schedule 8 substances are drugs of addiction. Authorisation to carry and administer them is granted by EMS Event Medical, is tied to the EMS TGA Medications Licence, requires Medical Director approval, is valid for 12 months from approval, is subject to annual reassessment, and is revocable.

How it works

  • Applicant details — identity, AHPRA registration, signature.
  • Scope selection — choose any or all of Morphine, Fentanyl, Ketamine. Only drugs you select and fully pass appear on the certificate.
  • Knowledge — a core S8 section plus a module for each selected drug. 100% is required for the core section and for each drug module independently.
  • Practical & Q&A — for each selected drug, an EMS assessor verifies a practical demonstration and a contraindications Q&A, by name and signature.
  • Sign-off — assessor confirms the practical, and the Medical Director authorises. The certificate cannot issue without both.
Consistency note: this tool uses the same 100% standard and assessor practical sign-off as the EMS ICP credentialling tool. (The source paper assessment specified 85%; the higher bar here is a deliberate EMS standardisation decision and is admin-adjustable.)

Select Scope

Choose any or all medications. You sit the core section plus a module and practical for each drug selected. Only drugs you fully pass appear on your certificate as additional scope of practice.

Knowledge Assessment

Answered 0 / 0 100% per section
The core section and each selected drug module must each be 100%. A single wrong answer in a section fails that section — the drug is not authorised. Rationale shown from the EMS reference.

Practical Demonstration & Contraindications Q&A

Completed by an EMS assessor for each selected drug that passed the knowledge module. Each item is confirmed Demonstrated or Not yet.

Only drugs that passed the 100% knowledge module appear here. A drug is authorised only when every practical item is Demonstrated.
